2017 has definitely been a magical year for most Ghanaian artistes with all the buzz, attention, controversies and so on and so forth. Couple of artistes caught the eyes of horde of music lovers with their songs, videos and performances. Well established acts like Sarkodie, Samini, Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, Manifest  and couple of other acts also added up numbers in the course of the year. Initially, Beenieword.com wanted to compile a list of just 5 popular songs in 2017 but there are too many songs released during this year so we accessed more song increasing the list to 10. KiDi, Kuame Eugene, Ebony, King Promise, Kurl Songx, Kwesi Arthur and Darko Vibes among others are best newcomers in 2017.

Highest estimated viral videos by fans, most streamed videos on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & YouTube, most talked about and controversial songs were what went into conducting the compilation. Here are the top 10 most popular songs in 2017;

1. One Corner – Patapaa.

Patapaa surfaced up as a bolt from the blue with his hit single one corner. The song was released somewhere September, upon it’s release the song went viral when the people of Swedru recorded a snippet of video dancing to it. Since then anywhere it’s been played it sweeps people off their feet. Statistics shows the song is the most searched song in 2017, breaking through the Nigerian music market where Don Jazzy’s Marvin Crew acts were jamming to it. The demand for the song was extremely high therefore, doors were opened to Patapaa to perform on almost all the biggest platform in the country.

2. Sarkodie – Pain Killer ft Runtown

Up to speed African rap king Sarkodie started the year on a good note. He released a heart warming and ear candy single christened “Pain Killer” featuring Nigeria’s Runtown. The song was released in first week in February, aside that it is the most watched video in 2017 with over 9 million views on YouTube. He also released his “Highest album” with 6 classic videos accompanying it.

3 Shatta Wale – Taking Over

Shatta Wale is always on a move like a busy bee, he just know when, what and how to be talk of the time. He released “Taking over” early this year somewhere March 16, the song features Joint 77, Addi Self and Captan. Based on the story line and lyrical composition of the song, it went viral. Some way,some how Shatta Wale was able to introduce the acts featured on the song to a large business market. The official video for the song has attracted more than 5 million views on YouTube. Performance wise Shatta Wale has mounted on all the biggest events in the country.

4. Shatta Wale – Ayoo

Like i stated earlier on, Shatta has developed both attacking and defensive mechanisms to sell his music project. The song in particular proved his versatility as an artiste; it has a blend of Ewe, Ga, pidgin and patwa. He broke through the Ewe community and blew the mind of Ghanaians immediately the song was released. The video has gravitated over 3 million views on YouTube.

5. Shatta Wale – Hosanna ft Burna Boy

It’s just unbelievable how Wale is able to release back to back hit within a short span. Truly the Shatta Movement king is really working hard to feed himself and his family as well as putting Ghana on the map. The collaboration between him and Burna Boy is one of the most popular street anthems in 2017 with over 2.5 views on YouTube.

6. Shatta Wale – Low Tempo ft Shatta Michy

Together they are most controversial and the best couples in our music industry. I really know what went into composing this song but as soon as it was released, it became a hit. It has over 2 million views on YouTube. Whenever they are performing the song together, it’s spellbinding.

7. Stonebowy – My name

Stonebwoy had a successful turn year with smash single “My Name”. The song enjoyed massive airplay both radio and TV. My Name is a song everyone can relate to, moreover the instrumentation was a jamaican riddim and Stonebwoy’s version was the most listened and downloaded.

8. Kuame Eugene – Angela

Within just 3 months, Lynx Entertainment signed act and MTN Hitmaker product Kuame Eugene has allured Ghanaians with his “Angela” hit song. It has charmed over 2 million views on YouTube.

9. Ebony – Poison ft Gatdoe

I call her most coquettish, audacious and very confident reggae/dancehall songstress. She is less than a year old in the industry but her works speaks volume; she released over 4 hit songs this year. She has been able to carve a niche with which she can easily be identified. 

10. Kurl Songx – Jennifer Lomotey ft Sarkodie

He is another well made product of MTN Hitmaker where he was fortunate enough to be a student of multiple award winning sound engineer Kaywa. “Jennifer Lomotey” was and is till a big hit. Sarkodie’s heavily loaded rap on the song and Kurl’s  silky voice got the song viral. Aside from it going viral it brought about some sort of heated argument between the people of Krobo a line Sark used in addressing them.

11. KiDi – Odo

There’s no way you can mention Kuame Eugene without mentioning KiDi. The are both products of MTN Hitmaker and label mates. It has believed as an artiste if you are able to sinking into the heart pf the ladies, you’ve the entire nation rallying behind you, that is exactly the case of KiDi. He has exerted influence with his style of singing and subject matters concerning love. In less than 5 months, he has appealed to over 1.5 million views.
