It appears that the era of people getting movie roles in Ghana and Nigeria based on their good looks, good body, and the complexion of their skin, could be coming to an end, as the new generation of filmmakers and actors keep seeking for professional training to perfect their craft!

Nigerian singer turned actor, Banky W is one of them. It appears that the success of his first major film, ‘The Wedding Party’ has inspired him to do more movies. So he has enrolled into the New York Film Academy July program, where sources tell me he is offering a course in Script Writing. Yes, more movie roles coming up for his adorable actress fiancé/wife,  Adesua Etomi.

Also in the  New York Film Academy is Nigerian model, host and athlete Boma Martins Akpore who has been making a name for himself in the modeling world for almost two decades.  In 2011 Boma relocated to New York. He featured in the in 2011/2012 New York Fashion Week after which he worked for Ralph Lauren as an In store model and worked as a model host for top designers like Valentino, Ralph Lauren, coach, Christian Dior, Hermes, Boma has also done lots of runways shows and television commercials.

As a sportsman, in 2011, Boma played football for New York Irish rovers and won the league cup in Long Island Football League Division one in 2012. In 2013 he travelled to Belgium for professional football trials in the 3rd and 4th divisions, the trials were successful but due to work permit issues, he could not feature during the season. Now he is taking his chances with movies and getting the training first at New York Film Academy.

Well, by now  you all know that actress, producer and award-winning fashion honcho (although her instgram reads choncho), Nana Akua Addo is also at the New York Film Academy. She has posted enough photos and videos on Instagram already…hahaha

Well, I wish them all the best and I hope they come out to inspire the industry with more quality stories and acting. A course in ‘Acting for Film’ cost from $300 to $ 16,285 for anything between short courses to a semester.  Tuition for screenwriting is between $350 -$2,993.
